Programme Announcement: Hidden Histories: Women of Waterloo
We’re pleased to announce that applications for our brand-new programme, Hidden Histories: Women of Waterloo, are now open! This exciting new programme is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and will explore the untold stories and unique experiences of women during the Battle of Waterloo while supporting the military spouses of today.
Applications are open until 12th September 2022. Following informal interviews in September, the Women of Waterloo team will welcome a group of 12 military spouses to take part in a pilot of the programme between October and December 2022, leading up to an in-person reunion in January 2023.
The team, led by archaeologist Sarah Dhanjal and historical novelist Katy Moran, will host live panels featuring expert historians and weekly virtual sessions exploring the lives of women at Waterloo. These sessions will examine first-hand accounts, historical documents and more to uncover important stories that have often gone ignored in narratives of the Battle, as well as tapping into the modern-day experiences of the programme’s participant.
Participants will become part of a friendly group of like-minded military spouses, with whom they can discuss their shared experiences while learning more about the untold experiences of women more than 200 years ago, all whilst receiving year-round support from our expert wellbeing team.
