Return to Waterloo | Dig Diary Day 0

We're headed back to Waterloo for a new season of excavation! Find out where we're going and what we'll be up to below...

When?

We'll be in Waterloo between the 3rd July - 12th July 2023, with a small team of world-class archaeologists, volunteers, students, and international veterans and serving personnel including Ukrainian, German, Dutch, Belgian and British veterans.

On the 6th July, we'll be hosting a virtual tour of the excavation site over Zoom for our supporters! Grab your free ticket below:

Where?

We'll be returning to Hougoumont farm, where we began our excavations in 2015!

Over the years, we've rewritten the known history of the decisive Battle within a Battle that took place at Hougoumont; confirming known accounts and disproving myths and legends through the archaeological evidence. We've discovered evidence of the men who fought to close the North Gate in the form of buttons and pieces of uniform, have found the remains of the burnt down barn and evidence of the French cannon that destroyed it, and have uncovered ammunition that tells the story of the Battle through its distribution pattern.

Now, we're pleased to be able to finish our exploration of Hougoumont by digging in a brand new part of the site that we've never explored before.
